As we enter this unprecedented, at least in my lifetime, period of "social distancing" to help curve the spread of the COVID 19 virus, I hope to regularly post in an attempt to inform and encourage. This morning a verse in Proverbs stood out to me, 14:15. "The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps." Solomon uses the term "simple" to refer to those with less life experience and an overall a lack of disciplined research. The simple are not necessarily to be considered equal to "sinners" or "fools," but rather, on the whole, just lacking in practical knowledge. How do we identify a "simple" person? Their gullibility is a clear mark of their lack of experience. There is much that both novice and professional do not know about our current challenge. We must resist the temptation to jump to conclusions. While the restrictions of this experience are unsettling, it is God honoring and encouraging to others when we do the work necessary to come to well informed conclusions. Solomon offers the antithesis of the "simple" calling that person "prudent." One of the most outstanding qualities of a prudent person is that they take the time and effort to carefully analyze their surroundings, then take definite steps to avoid the bad. We, as followers of Jesus Christ, for good reason confidently put our trust in God!
