God's Sovereignty

Today, I would like to encourage more of a dialogue with you. How are you coping with the COVID 19 crisis?

The Lord willing and my tech skills not bringing it to a halt, I will post some sort of brief, shall we call it, devotional aimed at encouraging us during this battle.

Those of you who know me, know that there is virtually nothing I like better than researching subjects. If you have a Bible question, you would like me to address, post it, and I'll dive in.

For today:
Could God, with one thought, bring to a complete end the COVID 19 Pandemic? The answer is a definite YES! Why isn't he? For followers of Christ, we trust the loving sovereignty of God. Those without our knowledge of the goodness and wisdom of God will take this as a cop-out. Some think the pandemic is exaggerated. Who or which is right? Is God good or not? Is pandemic real or hype?

The worldview determines the answer to both those questions. Over the history of humanity, there have been many plagues and wars. I have lived through several of both. The earliest health crisis I recall was polio. I distinctly remember the relief when the vaccine was given to us. Especially as a kid, I valued when the change was made from an injection to a sugar cube with a few drops of the vaccine.

Many evaluations are offered about God allowing evil and sickness. For now, I'll simply provide one perspective. In the light of eternity, whatever must be endured here, though painful and devastating at the point of impact, will be swallowed up in the vastness of eternity as God has promised it will be.

If you wish to participate in my suggested dialogue, be nice, and don't be afraid to be honest! We will be respectful in our disagreements and gracious with the unknown.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was a teen. A friend had invited me to attend church to help out in a Sunday School attendance drive. At the end of the worship service I asked the Pastor how I could know for sure I would go to Heaven. He had someone show me from the Scriptures how to receive Christ and from that day to this, I have had an assurance of Christ as my Savior and Heaven as my eternal home.

Within a few weeks I sensed a building desire to enter into full time ministry. My church observed me and confirmed the call. Upon graduation from High School, I enrolled in Bible College and I have been in ministry ever since. I was ordained to the ministry by my home church in Texas in 1974. It has been my privilege to be Pastor of Preaching and Teaching at Family Bible since 2005.

Cheryl and I were married in 1973. God has blessed us with two children, Rachel and David, and four grandsons.

Favorite part of ministry? - Researching and discussing questions about the Bible.

Favorite verse? - "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:58
